I finally tried out a design I have been wanting to make for a long time: Charles Rennie Mackintosh nail art! I know I have said before that this amazing architect has inspired many other people’s nail art as well, but I still really wanted to try it out.
I have visited Mackintosh’s house in Scotland some years ago (before that, I had never even heard of him), and I was very impressed by his designs. I love the long lines and elegant curls that are so characteristic of the Art Nouveau. So what I did, was simply finding some of Mackintosh’s designs and then I painted small pieces of these designs on my nails. These were the pieces that inspired my nail art design:
As you can see, I imitated both flowers, as well as the shapes in the corners and middle of the rose design. I wanted to outline every item, so I chose to put a cream base (Essie – Allure) on my nails and then added the free forms on top. I used four basic colours for the design: I felt like these came closest to the original colours, and I like the way in which these four complement each other. The colours are L’Oréal – Sky fits Heaven, Rimmel – Green Eyed Monster, Rimmel – Rose Libertine, and China Glaze – Tart-y for the Party. I also used a black nail art striper.
I can say with absolute certainty that this was the hardest design I have done so far. I am not very experienced with a nail art striper, so it was very difficult for me to make circles with it, but also choosing which parts to imitate from the original art (and even, which pieces of art to use) was not very easy. Nails are so small for a lot of detail!
Ultimately, I do think the design turned out really well, and I enjoyed wearing it on my nails very much! It is great to have a small piece of real art on your nails, especially because this time, you were the artist!
